Regional Planner

The Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission (Mid-MO RPC) is seeking an individual to support current staff in providing assistance to its local government membership. The individual will assist in the development of regional and local studies, assisting with grant processes and applications, and the development of local community projects.

Qualifications include graduation from an accredited college or university with preference given to major course work in the fields of planning, public administration, community development, or other related fields of study. One year of relevant experience is preferred.

Nature of Work

Under the supervision of the executive director, the Regional Planner is responsible for providing technical expertise to the Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission member communities in assisting with planning studies, grant applications, administration of grant programs, community planning services, and other special projects.

Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to)

Provide information and technical assistance to member governments in meeting state and federal requirements;

  • Assist in the application preparation and administration of grants, loan programs, research projects and other programs;
  • Assist member communities to identify specific needs within their communities and make recommendations for possible solutions;
  • Provide information on state and federal funding programs;
  • Provide basic research for the use of senior level professionals and member governments;
  • Research, analyze and organize data into written reports using computer techniques, composition and editing skills;
  • Provide assistance to member communities in completing and updating comprehensive plans;
  • Provide planning assistance to senior professional staff, Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission committees, and member communities pertaining to transportation, community and economic development, and other related fields;
  • Maintain files and administrative records; and
  • Perform other assigned tasks as directed by the Executive director.

It is not intended as an employment contract, not it is intended to describe all duties someone in this position may perform.  All employees of the Mid-Missouri Regional Planning Commission are expected to perform tasks as assigned by supervisory/management personnel, regardless of job title or routine duties.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited college or university with preference given to major course work in the fields of planning, public administration, community development, economics, or other related fields of study.  One year of relevant experience is preferred but not required.  Two years of relevant experience may be substituted for each year of required education.  Skill in the preparation of written reports is desirable and competency in communications with public officials is essential.  Must possess the ability to work well with co-workers, commissioners and others and desire to work in a team atmosphere.

Physical Requirements

Individual must possess a valid drivers license and access to a motor vehicle to be used for business purpose travel within the region.  Travel requirements approximately 30% to 40%.  Must be able to converse by phone and in person with customers and clients.
