August 11, 2017 – Mid-MO Regional Planning Commission has begun the update process for the Callaway County Hazard Mitigation Plan. Every five years, regional planning commissions across the state work with counties to update their hazard mitigation plans according to both State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) guidelines. These plans are required by both agencies in order for local jurisdictions to be eligible for hazard mitigation funding through state and federal agencies. As a part of the update process, public meetings are held to discuss disasters that could impact a county.Callaway County held their first meeting on August 8, 2017 to discuss the update process and go over the hazards that will be covered in the planning process. Throughout the next few months, Mid-MO RPC and Callaway County will host several meetings to discuss natural hazards and mitigation plans for those disasters in Callaway County.
Figure 3.0.2 shows Measures of Probability and Severity and Vulnerability Ratings for each jurisdiction.
The next meeting will be held at the Callaway Emergency Operations Center on August 29, 2017 at 10 a.m. The hazards covered will be tornado, severe thunderstorm, windstorm, and hailstorm. For further information please contact Sarah Nussbaum at 573.657.9779.
